Watering Your Lawn
One of the ideals for any homeowner in New England is having a green, lush lawn. Grass is pretty resilient, but one way to achieve beautiful growth is to follow some easy and practical watering guidelines.
Light, frequent watering will encourage shallow roots which will not fare well during any hot, summer droughts. Choose less frequent and heavier watering. Your grass will be stronger and be able to endure the summer months of heat.
When to Water
Do you have a sprinkler system? Many of our clients do, and we advise them not to use it every night. Watering at night only encourages mildew and fungal growth. This could spread to your entire lawn. The best time of the day to water in the hotter months is between 6 AM and 10 AM. If you water during the hottest part of the day, the water will dry up before it can be absorbed and used by your lawn.
How to Water
There are many different systems to water your lawn. A few are: pulsating sprinklers, hose-end sprinklers, in-ground sprinklers, and Smart watering systems. Since each has its own benefits, so we would suggest doing some research to see what one is best for you and your needs.
Letting Your Lawn Go Dormant
There are many reasons for letting your lawn go dormant. It will help with the cost of watering. You still water it, but just not as much. You also don’t have to mow if it’s dormant. When the weather changes and it gets cooler and the more frequent rains return, your grass will normally begin to grow again.
Having a beautiful lawn will greatly improve your curb appeal. If you feel you need help, we’re just a phone call or email away!
